Negotiating Tips Every Buyer Should Know
Buying a home is likely one of the biggest financial commitments you’ll make, so it pays to be aware of the finer points of the negotiating process.
A recent U.S. News and World Report article (http://money.usnews.com/money/personal-finance/articles/2014/07/11/12-negotiating-tips-every-homebuyer-should-know) outlines twelve tips that will help you get the best deal. The two most important tips, in my opinion, are:
- Get your finances in order before you start looking for a house—A mortgage pre-approval significantly strengthens your position. Many agents, in fact, won’t show homes to buyers until they’re pre-approved, so if you want to show you’re serious, get pre-approved first.
Which brings me to the second most important tip…
- If you see a home you like, be prepared to move fast—The home you want may no longer be available if you wait, or if you’re not in a position to make an offer. When you find your dream home, you may be in a highly competitive situation, so make your first offer your best offer. Don’t let the home you want slip away because you weren’t ready.
Being prepared and having the ability to move swiftly can make a huge difference when you’re negotiating for a home. The mortgage professionals at American Portfolio Mortgage Corporation can put you in the best position to succeed with your negotiation and your closing.
